Song of the Day! “It Feels Good” Tony! Toni! Tone’!

It is Tuesday, you don’t want to be at work but you do want to feel good. Get into it, shake your arms around, smile at that bitch you hate on the job. Have fun with it.

Enjoy!

Opening Day: The Cubs biggest fan

Wow, super proud of Schadenfreude for finally going viral, don’t get me wrong I have caught plenty of viruses from them but that involved a drunken sleep over gone wrong, or maybe it was right? hmmm…

Whatever the case, Justin and Kate made a video and in less than a month they got just under 500,000 hits on vimeo. Lets give this video the good old WTR bump and take it over the half million mark.

Song of the Day! Musiq Soulchild “Anything” feat. Swizz Beatz

The new Musiq Soulchild tune gets turned up every time it comes on the radio, can’t explain it, just know it happens. Take a listen and maybe it will happen to you too. . .

The official video (below) just went up today, I happen to be the 311th viewer, lets see if this tune takes off or not.

Gas Ain’t Cheap, Help the Congregation get to SXSW!!!

The Congregation are constantly moving forward, I have nothing but admiration for Gina and co! From their ability to blast the media, to booking the hell out of themselves, to winning SXSW contests, these guys and gal have what it takes. Seriously, why do half the bands fail? Cause they give up and there is no giving up in the Congregation, I can see that from a distance. Keep on keeping on!!!

This Thursday (3/3/11) head to Reggies for the SXSW Sendoff/Fundraiser (aka Gas Ain’t Cheap, Help the Congregation out!), also pick up a copy of their EP NOT FOR SLEEPING, it sounds great, hell I recorded it!

Here’s a video of them performing at some no name studio. . .

Enjoy!

A look back at Rocketship Arnold

Wow, this post is something I have thought about doing for many years and only today do I actually get to scratch it off my to do list!

Rocketship Arnold was a mid 90′s Chicago punk band featuring Bryan Welch on vocals, Neil J Young on guitar, Mike Andersen on bass, Alan Tarkowski on guitar, Ben Kane on drums, Jim Darukhanavala on sax and Brandon Murphy on trumpet. This 7″ was recorded at Attica Studios with Chuck Uchida behind the glass and released on Watching Records. There was a small run of clear vinyl and a larger run with the traditional black.

This is an ode to an era prior to me knowing what the funk was all about. Ahh, to be young and dumb again!

You can check the youtube videos below or download the mp3′s here.

I unfortunately don’t have a copy of the first EP with “Jump” on it! If you do have a copy please let a brotha know, I want it!!!!

Enjoy!

and the Oscar for best cover of the Starsky & Hutch theme goes to… JTQ (James Taylor Quartet)!!!!!

I have no idea why I’m posting this other than it’s late and I have had a couple two/tree Blue Ribbon awarded beverages. Think the Oscars but from a guy who didn’t watch them. James Taylor Quartet are a super funky group out of the UK. Nothing new here, just kind of fit within the ridiculous event that is the Oscars, oh and it popped up on Itunes.

From the looks of it at the end of the video, always buckle up!

Song of the Dre! Dr Dre “Kush”

Hold up wait a minute let me put some kush up in it. . .

My apologies ahead of time for the bullshit commercials on this  vid. . .

If you haven’t heard of Dre Day ’11, well you are probably too busy living in your parents basement sniffing glue. With that said, this Friday February 18th @ Chicago’s legendary venue Double Door, Dre Day ’11 will be popping off with The Jordan Years playing house band with a TON of special guests, The Opus, Mic Terror, DJs Intel, Big Once, TREW, KOOL HERSH, and The Comeups . This event is brought to you by the guys that brought Chicago: Mayer Hawthorne, Kings Go Forth, Wu Tang Clan, Mos Def, MF Doom, North Coast Festival, etc.

Please do me a HUGE favor and check out COLD GRUM PRODUCTIONS and GROUND LIFT MEDIA. These two organizations are truly what keeps Chicago’s Hip Hop and Soul scene alive.

Also if you can’t be at Dre Day cause maybe you live in another country or are a leper you can watch the show live at Gigity.tv They are cool enough to stream the show for no money, which makes myself and the rest of the event VERY HAPPY. Support Gigity too if you have it in ya.

All Dre All day,
